Nene Park

Making lakeside fun in Peterborough more inclusive and active than ever

For nearly 40 years, Nene Park Trust has been dedicated to promoting better health for local people and keener stewardship of the landscapes they care about. Often recognised as the green jewel of Peterborough, Nene Park covers 1,700 acres of stunning urban parkland and countryside to the west of the city. The site is managed by a close-knit group of trustees, staff and enthusiastic volunteers, all of them committed to improving quality of life in the region. As an outstanding locus of sports and recreation, the site also welcomes over 1.2 million visitors a year, making it one of the most popular country parks and leisure venues in England.

The Lakeside Activity Centre | A national climbing centre of excellence

A key priority of the Trust is to respond to the local need for all-weather, year-round leisure facilities. This not only supports Peterborough’s Active Lifestyle and Sports agenda, but also aligns with the wider regeneration of the city, including the expansion of the University. Crucially, these shared ambitions have guided the Charity in planning for a multi-million-pound Lakeside Activity Centre.

Gifted was appointed to undertake a fundraising feasibility study for the project and in response to our advice, Nene Park trustees are now considering the best way forward as part of their long-term strategic planning.

“This is a project which promises to be a tremendous asset for the city of Peterborough and a fantastic sports and leisure destination for residents,” says Gifted’s Chris Goldie. “The Charity’s ambition to become a National Centre of Excellence for paraclimbing, was also one that we were keen to explore as part of the Study, given the growing interest in the sport.”
