Not only did clergy and volunteer church leaders have to deal with closing their buildings and taking worship online, but many also felt compelled to do more in terms of tackling issues of loneliness and isolation in their local communities. Ultimately, for most, this had a catastrophic impact on funding; churches saw regular plate giving all but cease and cathedrals suffered an unprecedented loss of event and visitor income.
