The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC)

Building a world-class facility for the future.

The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) which was given approval in 2023 is part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme. The £105m project will be entirely dedicated to excellence and has been designed to fully integrate research, innovation, education and training, alongside clinical practice. Work is now well underway on the 70-bed specialist facility located on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, home to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, and is on schedule to open its doors to patients in 2025.

“When we were asked to provide the University of Nottingham NHS Trust with fundraising services, we were thrilled,” says Gifted’s Chris Goldie. “As well as helping patients to rehabilitate from all kinds of accidents and injuries, the NRC Clinical and Academic Partnership (NCAP), led by the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University, will be at the forefront of pioneering international research into clinical rehabilitation, including products and technologies.“

Much of this vision was put forward by the late Duke of Westminster who recognised the benefits of having two facilities – one defence, one civilian – on the same site to allow for the sharing of ideas, resources and equipment. Gifted has been engaged to help secure an additional £9m in philanthropic support which will supplement the Government’s £95m investment in the project.

“Our role is to guide the fundraising for those elements of the NRC that will make it a world class facility, but which happen to fall outside NHS funding.“
