The Shree Krishna Resource Centre

Building collaboration and inclusion across South Warwickshire with plans for a stunning new Mandir in Leamington Spa.

The Shree Krishna Resource Centre (SKRC) oversees and manages the activities of South Warwickshire’s only Mandir. As a registered charity, it serves the local population, but also provides a spiritual home and community hub for Hindus who come from many different traditions and are currently living in the region.

The Charity was founded in 1979 when a few devotees established the Hindu Religious Association in Leamington and Warwick. Over more than four decades, it has grown significantly and continues to support the religious and cultural life of local Hindus, as well as running vital projects that build healthy social cohesion.

The Vision

In July this year, we were invited to support the SKRC’s leadership team as it takes the first steps in sharing its vision for a brand-new Mandir. “The need for the new building is compelling,” says Gifted’s Director, Andrew Day. “The existing Mandir is now at capacity and its facilities can no longer adequately support the myriad activities that take place within the Temple. From regular worship, festivals and langar catering to yoga lessons and dance classes, the site is struggling to meet the demands of this diverse community.”

Having been granted planning consent to create a new Mandir, the organising committee engaged Gifted to undertake a comprehensive feasibility study to prepare the project’s case for support and fundraising plan.

“The vision offers many benefits,” says Andrew. “The new facilities will transform the experience of not only worship, but learning, service and an extensive range of cultural, social and physical activities.”

Leading the way

The feasibility study for the new Mandir is now well underway, with over 30 stakeholder interviewees being encouraged to bring invaluable intelligence to the fundraising plan. What has so far been striking is the leadership commitment to the vision and the willingness of all parties to become engaged. “£2m is an ambitious fundraising target for any community-based charity,” adds Andrew. “But the SKRC’s leaders share that wonderful combination of positivity and pragmatism. They know what they want to achieve, and they are dedicated to shaping a sound fundraising plan that will propel them towards their goal. It’s wonderful to witness both the energy and focus that this project is creating.”
